Tom was born on May 22, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to Dallas in 1956. Tom was in the first graduating class of Thomas Jefferson High school in 1957. He went on to earn a degree in architecture from the University of Texas and enjoyed a successful career designing buildings throughout the state.
Tom had a love of design, and after retiring from work, utilized his talents in landscape architecture, designing his own yard, but also assisting several friends with theirs. He had a great eye and a love of midcentury modern style. His home was a showplace, with each piece of furniture carefully selected. He also loved art, which he collected throughout his life.
Tom was preceded in death by father, Charles William Hilker, mother, Mary Clara Hilker, younger brother, John Hilker, and life partner, Doyle Clinton. Tom is survived by sister, Joyce Potter, nieces, Julie Adams, and Jill Powell, along with many close friends.
Tom had a great love of animals with many special pets during his lifetime. In lieu of flowers, Tom requested donations to Operation Kindness (www.operationkindness.org), a no-kill animal shelter located in Addison, Texas.
