Rilla Georgeanne Brumbelow

Janne Suggs Brumbelow (born Rilla Georganne Suggs), 79, died of natural causes on July 30, 2023 at 2:44pm.

Born in Charleston, SC on February 19, 1944 to Eileen Louise Suggs and Franks Maxwell Suggs. She grew up in Texarkana, TX, Texas High class of 1962. Received her B.A. from Baylor University in 1966, outstanding woman musician for two years, where she met Raymond Brumbelow, Jr. They married and had two boys, David Ray and Chris Maxwell in Virginia. After divorcing Raymond in 1978, she moved to Richmond, VA with her two boys and attended the Presbyterian School of Christian Education where she received her Master’s in Sacred Music and Christian Education in 1982. She found fellowship at a church in Longview, TX for two years, and Stuart, FL, for one year, before settling back in Texarkana, TX, in 1985, where she met and later married Von Piercey. In the early 90s she moved back to Richmond, VA, and eventually felt the calling again to become an ordained minister, and in 1998 received her Master’s of Divinity from Union-PSCE in Richmond, VA. She served as pastor of Cordell and Colony Churches in Oklahoma until 2004, then First Presbyterian Church in Littlefield, TX, until she retired in 2010.

In her professional life, she always strove to be inclusive. All were welcome in her community, this often caused her strife in the smaller communities she ministered to, but it was a fight she felt important enough to weather. She did what she could to help others without thinking of self or riches.

In her personal life, she was a loyal friend, loving mother, and caring neighbor. She loved to tell jokes, have a good laugh, and be silly. She liked to sing songs, play the piano and organ, and in her younger years, the bassoon. She loved to tell stories to young and old alike. Her favorite pastime was visiting with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Louise and Franks Suggs. She is survived by her husband Von Piercey, sons David and Chris, stepdaughters Lisa and Sarah, and granddaughters Emari and Abigail.

A public memorial service will be held at 11am on August 14th, 2023 at the Villages of Dallas at 550 Ann Arbor Dr, Dallas, TX. 75225
