Odetta Spencer Russeau, age 94, of Dallas, Texas, passed away June 4, 2023. She was born in Karnack, Texas on November 7, 1928. Odetta graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1945 and attended Wylie College. She was married to Clarence C Russeau on November 20, 1951.
Odetta started her career by working at Dallas Day Nurseries as a Teacher and Director in 1965. From there, she worked as Director for the Jenetta Foundation. In 1979, she joined Highland Park United Methodist Church as Director of Food Services and Catering until she retired in 2002.
She was a member of many organizations: a Charter Member at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, Diamond Bridge Club Founder, Priscila Arts Club, Texas Assoc for Education of Young Children and The National Association for Church Food Service. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and also attended services at Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church.
Odetta had a passion for Cooking, Birdwatching, and collecting Bunnies and Bird figurines. She had the greenest of thumbs as evidenced by the vibrant and beautiful plants spread throughout her welcoming home.
She is survived by her son, Clarence Keith Russeau, her god son, Hayward (Eva), god daughter Charisse (Rhonda), her grandson Kingston, her sisters Brenda Walker, Marydell Evans, Jean Summerlin, Sandra Spencer Taylor (George), brothers BJ Spencer, and Oscar Spencer. And a host of nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service will be on June 23, 2023 at 10 am at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75205
