Maggie was a beloved mother, wife, sister, friend and mentor who lived her entire life in Lodi, Ohio, where she was a cornerstone of the community. With her warmth, humor, intelligence, and endless energy, she touched the lives of countless people across generations.
The youngest of six children, Margaret grew up in Lodi and later attended Hiram College before graduating from Automated Institute with a degree in Computer Systems Analysis. She began her career at Sohio/Stauffer’s in Burbank and worked at her family’s business, Leatherman Hardware. In 1987, she joined the staff of the Lodi Library, where she worked as a clerk for 34 years, greeting patrons with her trademark smile until her retirement in 2021.
In 1965, Margaret married Wayne “Pete” Hershberger. They were married for 56 years and raised two daughters, Danica Lynn of Dallas, TX, and Andrea Jean of Guam.
Margaret believed in service. She was a Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, a Deacon at Central Christian Church in Wooster, and a Girl Scout leader and trainer for 16 years, and is a lifelong member. A longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she served as Worthy Matron seven times. She also gave her time and heart to the Lodi Historical Society as a trustee and advocate.
Her passions reflected her vibrant spirit: books and reading, traveling, dancing, cooking, dragons, and Christmas.
