Lorene Lynette Chambers

Lorene Lynette (Lyn) Chambers, age 83, died suddenly on Monday November 21, 2022. Lyn was born on June 8, 1939, in McClelland, Iowa. She was the youngest of her parents, (John and Mildred Johnson’s,” five children. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.

Bob is heartbroken at the sudden loss of his “Special Angel.” They first met when they were only 14 years old, and Bob knew at first sight someday he would marry Lyn. They were married for almost 64 years. Lyn is described by everyone who knew her as the sweetest, kindest, and friendliest person that God ever put on this earth. She brought joy wherever she went.

Lyn was a stay-at-home mom and participated in her children’s numerous school activities. When her youngest was in 10th grade she began work outside the home at Ford Motor Credit Company and subsequently Eastman Kodak Company in various administrative capacities.

Lyn and Bob took early retirement in 1995 and moved onto their 49-foot sailboat “Promise” (named for a promise they made to each other.) They left from San Francisco and cruised the California coast, Central America and the Caribbean for five years. Family obligations required a return to land; consequently, they settled in Frisco, Texas in 1999.

While in Frisco, Lyn participated in numerous community activities. She was a member of the Frisco Area Republicans, the Frisco Area Republican Woman and served on the Republican Women of North Collin County’s Executive Board. She was a docent at the Heritage Farmstead Museum, a leader at the Frisco Senior Center and the Heritage Association of Frisco.

She tirelessly promoted the Collin County Meals on Wheels where she served on the Board of Trustees for six years. In 2008, she was elected to the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature and also served on the Board of Trustees for the Collin County Committee on Aging, serving on the North Central Texas Council of Governments. In 2012, she was appointed to the National Silver-Haired Congress where she chaired the Texas delegation. For her community leadership, Lyn received Frisco’s 2007 Citizen of the Year Award.

Lyn was also an active member at Christ United Methodist in Plano, her church home. She participated in mission projects and was a leader in her beloved Sunday School class. She loved her neighbor as she loved her God. In 2017, Lyn and Bob moved to Highland Springs Retirement Community in Dallas, Texas where she continued to make new friends.

Lyn is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Chambers of 63 years, sons Christopher and Michael Chambers, grandsons Michell Neff and Steven Chambers, daughter Elizabeth Wickman (Rob), and granddaughter Jillian Tekell (Jonathan).

A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2023, at 11:00AM at Christ United Methodist Church located at 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas 75075.
