Janet Gayle (Ford) Kirkland passed away on March 3, 2023 at the age of 77. Her health issues, though challenging, never kept her down too long. For years, she tackled each issue with great courage and unending strength. She was determined and never stopped fighting.
Janet was born August 13, 1945 to parents D.V. "Pete" Ford and Berta "Faye" (Oliver) Ford. She grew up in Oak Cliff, Texas, graduating from Kimball High School in 1963 where she was a member of the award winning Troubadours during their inaugural fourth and fifth years.
In 1968, Janet's daughter was born. Janet lovingly taught life lessons in strength, perseverance and independence to her daughter and was always there with a listening ear, shoulder to cry on and soft-spoken advice to guide her.
While raising her daughter, Janet began her professional career in banking. In 1971 she began working for Wynnewood Bank & Trust in Oak Cliff and in 1989 she went to Compass Bank where she stayed until retiring in 2019 after 30 years.
Janet lived at Prestonwood Country Club Condominiums from 1988 until her death. She was a long serving member of the Prestonwood Country Club Condominium Board of Managers. She also served as President for several years.
The simplest of pleasures, such as dining with friends, brought Janet great joy. She enjoyed weekends with family and traveling around Europe with her girlfriends. Her favorite place to visit was Italy, returning several times over the years.
Known as Mamagoose to her grandsons (and others), she was committed to her family and loved sitting in the stands cheering them on at baseball and basketball games.
Janet's unique style and grace will never be forgotten. From the way she wore her hair and make-up to how she dressed in the latest style; and, let's not forget those freshly painted finger and toe nails! Her laughter was infectious and her personality contagious. She was beautiful, smart, witty, funny, kind and loving. She loved to sing, especially to Alabama songs!
Preceding her in death are her parents and her beloved Bob, Robert Lineback.
Janet is survived by her daughter Camille Brubaker, grandson Tanner and wife, Abbey Brubaker, and grandson Conner Brubaker, all of Carrollton, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Jim and wife, Amy Ford, of Durant, Oklahoma and niece Erin Coleman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Life will be held honoring Janet at her home located at 5803 Copperwood Ln., #1118, Dallas, Texas 75248. The Celebration will be April 8, 2023 starting at 12:00pm. Friends and family are welcome to come celebrate Janet's life any time throughout the afternoon.
