He graduated from Pittsburg High School, Pittsburg TX and later Abilene Christian University.
While in high school he worked at the Pittsburg Hot Link Place. After graduation from high school he joined the Air Force. He had several different jobs but the one he was most proud of was 25 years on the Dallas Police Dept.
He enjoyed traveling after retirement and volunteering with the Bill Glass Prison Ministry and the Texas Baptist Men.
He is preceded in death by his father William Jackson Barnwell, his mother Mattie Virginia Walker Barnwell, brothers, O’Neal Barnwell and William Barnwell, sisters O’Dale Rogers, “Little Mary”, Miriam Capehart, Virginia Barnes, and Eddie Jean Wright
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Patsy Littlefield Barnwell, daughters Jamie (Ben) Burgeson of Jacksonville Tx, Angela Searle of Cullowhee NC, sons Kenneth Barnwell (DeAnn) of College Station TX , Jerry Barnwell (Tina) of Ennis TX, and three grandchildren Karis, Brennan and Reegan Barnwell.
The family would like to thank Ennis Care Center of Ennis, TX and Traditions Health (Hospice) for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church, Tyler TX. Visitation will be 10 AM and the service will begin at 11.
There will be a private burial later at Pittsburg, TX.
