Gregory Milton Farr of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2024. Greg was born on February 24, 1952 to Charlie and Donna Farr in Fort Worth, Texas. The family moved to Kailua, Hawaii a few years later where Greg spent his childhood. After Greg graduated from Kailua High School in 1970, he went on to study at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
After his junior year of college, while working as a counselor at Pu’uKahea Christian Youth Camp, he met and fell in love with his future wife, Martha Gulley Farr. Greg and Martha went on to have one son, Drew Farr, in 1980. They spent 51 precious years together.
Greg spent his entire career in education serving children and teens. He also furthered his career, earning a master’s degree in special education with a principal and superintendent certification. He both taught and served as an administrator in public schools. His real passion was supporting students with special needs. In 2016 Greg retired from Birdville ISD where he served as the principal of Shannon Learning Center.
Greg was an avid reader of all things which made him the winner of all trivia games. His family fondly called him “a box of useless information” since he knew so many random facts! He loved his coffee and spending time building puzzles and Legos. Greg had unique artistic abilities; he provided the illustrations for books written by his grandchildren, nephews, family, and friends. He made everyone feel special when they were with him. Every December he magically morphed into Santa. His looks and his smile conveyed Christmas cheer. Perhaps his best-known skill was that of being “Poppi” to his two grandchildren, Ethan and Sydney. Greg adored his grandkids, indulging them with goodies and treats and supporting them in their activities.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Donna Farr. He is survived by his wife Martha, son Drew and wife Erin, and his two grandchildren, Ethan and Sydney. He is also survived by his sister Cyndee Farr Dunn and brother Steve Farr, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, and friends who adored him.
A memorial service will be held at University Christian Church, January 11 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ACH Child and Family Services. This service provides programs that are designed to prevent child abuse, neglect, and family separation: achservices.org; 3712 Wichita St. Fort Worth, TX 76119; or 817-335-4673.
