In his early years, he spent time as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force where he served as an Electronics Mechanic before being honorably discharged in 1977. His service time led him to eventually land in San Antonio, TX. This is ultimately where he met his loving wife for 41 years, Dora Evans. The two were married in 1982 in San Antonio before eventually moving to Dallas. There, the two wonderful parents raised 2 children, Dustin Dwight and Dylan Alyn, ages 39 and 35, both of whom live in Dallas Suburbs of McKinney and Sachse respectively. His kids and 2 daughter in-laws, Erin and Cassie provided him with 7 beautiful grandchildren: Alana Rose (11), Madilyn McKenzie (11), Annie Cate (8), Drew Grayson (7), Nolan Alyn (5) Aileen Kennedy (5) and Parker Beth (1). In addition to his immediate family, he has several nieces and nephews who will all miss his contagious smile. Dwight was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robley Dwight and Jacqueline as well as his father and mother in law Arnulfo “Tito” and Olga Dimas. He has one surviving sister, Gwen Bell of Atlanta, Georgia.
Dwight’s early years as a father consisted of transporting his 2 boys to and from soccer games all around the country. Between countless late nights of traveling and his busy work schedule, there was never a game that he missed. His passion for soccer, which led him to play until he was 40, was passed along to both kids and watching them excel gave him great joy.
Spawning from many nights at the family ranch in Kerrville, TX, was his love of being outside. So much so, he built himself a beautiful backyard at home from which he enjoyed every day, headlined by the grill for which he loved cooking for anyone that came into his home. Rain, snow or shine, every day of his started out with a cup of coffee overlooking years of his work. The seat in the backyard is where he watched his grandkids learn to swim over the summers and also enjoyed many nights with his nephew, Ben, exchanging stories well into the morning hours.
Cooler nights meant one thing in the Evans household, football season. There was hardly a Cowboys game that went by where the house wasn’t full of family and friends congregating waiting for whatever “Ono” was throwing on the grill that day.
Dwight was a big kid at heart as second to his family, was his love of video games after the kids had grown. Those who knew him best and walked through his front door would always be greeted with the sight of him smiling and nodding, “Hello” all while being unbothered playing on his big screen with headphones. It is certainly a sight that is going to be missed by all that knew him. The caring and kind man was the best grandfather, father and husband his family could ever has asked for. “Ono” will be deeply missed.
The extended Evans family sincerely sends their gratitude to everyone who has reached out to help them get through this difficult time. A service time and date will be announced when finalized.
