Dorothy June Jackson Wood, 82, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023 in Dallas. She is survived by her children, Darryl Wood of Ft. Worth, Shawna Wood of Dallas, and David Wood of Ft. Worth, Steven Worley of Burleson, grandson Ethan Wood, twin brother James Jackson of Flowery Branch, Georgia, sister Evelyn Patterson of Chilpancingo, Gro. Mexico, brother Jack Jackson of North Richland Hills, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, H. Larry Wood, where in death they can accept each other with forgiveness and love.
June was born February 16, 1941 in Amarillo. She graduated from Carter Riverside High School in 1959. She attended Bob Jones University and the University of Texas at Arlington. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in 1993. June’s passion was reading and teaching everything, especially the Bible and many Christian authors. She loved the English language and it’s purpose. In addition, she adored working with youth and animals. June organized youth camping trips, traveled in ministry, enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time with her family and friends. June volunteered as a docent at the Ft Worth Zoo and the Ft Worth Nature and Wildlife Refuge.
June worked in service to faith based charities and dedicated her life to joyful and uplifting causes be it supporting animals or donating and raising money to build wells in Africa.
June had a strong faith in God and loved Jesus Christ. She relied on God’s spirit and its purpose in our daily lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Worth Zoo.
Graveside Interment to be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth on 10/20/2023 at 10am. A reception/lunch to be held afterward.
