Carolyn Merdene (Reed) Smith. Born October 11, 1937, passed away July 15, 2023 after a long battle with dementia. She will be joining family members that passed before her. Parents, James and Harriet Reed, Sister, Frances Rae Davidson, Son-in-Law, Nick W. Parnell and Granddaughter, Denise Nicole Parnell. She is survived by her four children, Cynthia Sutton Parnell, Stephen Riley Sutton, Scott Benford Sutton and Sharla Sutton Ivey, Nine (9) grandchildren, Six (6) Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She lived most of her life in Dallas, Texas, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in January of 1955, and worked most of her life as a legal secretary. After High School she married her High School Sweetheart, Les W. Sutton and they had 4 children in five years. They later divorced and she was briefly married to Burton Gilliam (before he became an actor). Her third husband was E. Campbell Smith. While married to him, she started her own business in the late 1970s. It was “Call Carolyn Temporaries” and provided secretarial services to companies who were using Word Processing equipment, before computers came on the scene. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes spread in the ocean, there will be no formal service.
