Carlita S Laurent

Carlita was the loving wife of Marion E. Settegast, Jr. for 33 years before his passing in 1987. She then married J. Scott Laurent and they had 33 yrs together before his passing in 2023.

Carlita attended Poe Elementary, Lanier Jr. High, graduated from Lamar High School all in Houston before attending The University of Texas in Austin. At UT, she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority (earning her Diamond Circle pin last yr), and was very proud of her honor of being named Miss Posture Queen of The University.

Carlita was an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, and lately attended Athens First Methodist Church. She loved being with family and hosting most of the holidays at her home. Watching her children play sports was a favorite pastime. She also enjoyed playing Bridge, Solitaire, and Gin Rummy, as well as being a wonderful cook, especially her chicken fried steak and cheesecake! Later in life, she enjoyed traveling all over the world with Scott. For many years she volunteered with Blue Bird Circle Charity in Houston.

Carlita is preceded in death by her parents, her 2 husbands, and her sister Dorothy Stehr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 4 children, Jennie Smith, Sandra (Marc) Abadie, Marion “Gig” (Carol) Settegast, and Carlita (George) Sealy; her 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring ladies of Country Place Assisted Living and The Grove Hospice Care. Also a big thanks to her amazing private caregivers, Kathleen and Heather.
