Mrs. Shirley Mae (Pope) Blue was peacefully called home by the Lord the evening of August 6, 2026, under the watchful eye of her devoted daughter Sharon and hospital staff, having valiantly endured six years of kidney failure. She was born January 3, 1934, in Lawrence, Marion County, Indiana to the late Archie Cleveland Pope and Mae Pet (Jones) Pope. She was united in holy matrimony to Paul Dudley Blue on September 6, 1953, who preceded her in death March 7, 2010, near their home of 30+ years in Davenport, Florida. She was preceded in death by her son James Archie Blue, her grandson Brian Wallace Brosius, her brother James Lonnie Pope, her brother-in-law Herman Hurvey Blue.
Shirley and Paul had a long and happy marriage of 56 years. Paul worked for Gulf Oil Company. He was transferred three different times to different states during their marriage. The family joke was that they left a child in each state they lived. When Paul retired, they moved to Davenport, Florida to be close to Shirley's parents.
Shirley was employed by Orlando International Airport for nine years, where she taught Customer Service to Airport Security. After 09/2011, she worked for Polo Park East, where they resided. She was referred to as the "energizer bunny" as she was always cleaning or picking up areas of the park. It was her home and she wanted it to look nice for residents and visitors. Shirley never saw a stranger; she was known by most of the residents who lived there.
Shirley's beautiful life will be forever cherished and deeply missed by her children: son, Ronald "Ron" Dean Blue and wife Buppachart "Toy" (Chaipanya) Blue of Herber City, Utah; daughter, Sharon Rose (Blue) McKinney and husband David Michael McKinney of Avon, Indiana; granddaughter, Christian Michelle McKinney and husband David Sutherland Sudhop, great-granddaughter, Grace Riley Sudhop of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandson, Scott Ryan McKinney, great-grandson, Jared McKinney of Coatsville, Indiana; son Kelly "Lee" Blue and wife Amiee (Ginther) Blue, granddaughter Emma Leigh Blue of Rincon, Georgia; step-daughter, Bonita "Bonnie" Jean Blue, grandson, John David Brosius and wife Lisa Rose (Hannah) Brosius, great-grandson Andrew David Brosius of Indianapolis, Indiana; beloved sister-in-law, Jenny Lou (Karnes) Blue of Indianapolis, Indiana, her extended family, along with numerous cousins and friends.
Paul and Shirley's ashes will be interred on October 2nd, 10:00am at Crown Hill National Cemetery, 725 W. 42nd Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Per Shirley's request, a Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held in the Polo Park East clubhouse on January 17th 3:00pm, where they also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, in Davenport, Florida.
The family would like to thank the Villages of Avon for the attentive care they provided for Shirley while a resident there. Also, the Neptune Society for taking care of her final arrangements.
