Sharon Lee Melchiori

She is survived by her children, Wendy Marciniak (Marty), of Chesterton, IN; Mark Melchiori (Lori) of Saukville, WI; grandchildren Hayley Dwyer (Justin) of Porter, IN; and John Marciniak (Jordan) of Chicago, IL; great grandsons Harrison Dwyer of Porter IN and Ellington Marciniak of Chicago, IL, along with great granddaughters Landon and Logan Marciniak of Chicago, IL.

Sharon is also survived by her sister Judy (David) Hernandez of Naples, FL, sister-in-law Virginia Hale of Hobart and brother-in-law Alphonse Iannessi of Crown Point, IN, along with many nieces and nephews. Sharon is also survived by her best friend of over 75 years, Beverly Gadd of Valparaiso.

Sharon was preceded in death by her loving husband John and an infant son, parents, Roma and Richard Hale, sisters Joan Arnold (Gene), Jean Kresho and brother Richard Hale.

Sharon was born on June 8th,1934 in Gary, Indiana. She was a graduate of Gary Edison High School, where she met the love of her life, John. John and Sharon were married in 1953 and lived most of their lives in Chesterton. Sharon and John moved to Florida where they lived happily after retirement for over 12 years. After John’s passing, Sharon returned to Chesterton in 2021.

Sharon worked at the Chesterton License Bureau, Westchester Public Library and ended her career with the Duneland School Corporation until retirement. Sharon was very involved in the community. She was an active member of the Chesterton Junior Women’s Club and Tri-Kappa philanthropic sorority, Epsilon Kappa Chapter. She also belonged to the Presbyterian Church of the Dunes, and then later St. John’s United Church of Christ of Chesterton.

Sharon loved to entertain but loathed cooking. Thankfully, her husband John was a master chef. Sharon was an avid reader, accomplished pianist and loved gardening and her favorite flower, snapdragons. But most of all, she loved spending time with her cherished family and friends.

A memorial service for Sharon will be held on Friday, July 31st at 10:00 am at St. John’s United Church, 225 W Lincoln Ave, Chesterton, IN., with Pastor Aaron Ban presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Avenue, Valparaiso, IN; or the Porter County Community Foundation with “Chesterton Parks Foundation Energize PC” in the memo line.
