Sharon Barbara Knowles

Sharon (Sheri) Wainscott Knowles, 83, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023. She was born on November 3, 1939, in Peru, Indiana, to Clinton Schenck Wainscott and Ilse Beck Wainscott, who immigrated to the United States from Zurich, Switzerland, in 1923.

Sheri was raised in Peru and then attended Indiana University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and a member of the Singing Hoosiers. In 1960, she married her husband of sixty-three years, William W. Knowles. Together, they raised their daughter, Michelle, and son, Michael.

Sheri inherited her love of music from her mother, and she sang in church choirs and was a twenty-year member of Sweet Adelines International. She was involved in a singing group she helped to organize called Sentimental Sounds, and was also a member of Tri Kappa Associate Chapter. Sheri and Bill were active at both Church at the Crossing & Carmel United Methodist Church, where they made many wonderful friends. Sheri also participated in Bible Study Fellowship, where she enjoyed studying God’s word.

Left behind to cherish her memory include her husband, Bill; her daughter, Michelle Bengel (Mark); and three grandchildren, Nicole (Kirk) Baly, Shannon Bengel and Peter Bengel; and great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Anders Baly. Also surviving is her brother, Eric Wainscott, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, William Michael.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Hoosier Village Chapel, 5385 Soapberry Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268.
