Genarose was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She worked for Corhart Refractories until it was bought by Corning Glass Works, when she moved to Corning, New York. A high school graduate, she took night courses and became Accounting Manager of the Ceramic Products Division of Corning. She retired to Corydon, Indiana, to be near her family.
As a teen, she attended Baptist Tabernacle in Louisville, then Grace Lutheran, also in Louisville. In Corydon, she attended St. Peter’s Lutheran. She taught youth Sunday School all her adult life. On her return to the Kentuckiana area, she volunteered at the Grace Lutheran clothes closet and founded The Church Mice, a pre-teen and teen Sunday School group at St. Peter’s.
Genarose worked in stained glass, winning a prize at the Harrison County Fair for her Bluebirds. She was a long-time knitter, spending her summers knitting mittens and scarves to give to schools and the Gerdon Youth Center (now Boys and Girls Club). She was one of the founding members of the Gerdon Youth Center and of Community Unity. Until her health prevented her participation, she was a member of the Friends of Harrison County Library and Woman’s Literary Club of Corydon.
She is survived by her daughter, Marian Turner Allen (Charles), her granddaughters, Alice Ann Allen (Scott), Susan Elizabeth Allen (Brian), Leslie Ruth Mathes, and Sara Marian Deurell (Zakary), four great-grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service and interment of her ashes will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Hosparus Health of Southern Indiana, 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany, IN 47150 or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 655 St. Peter’s Church Road, Corydon, IN 47112.
