Robert Lawrence Adams

Robert Lawrence Adams, 85, of Avon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2023. He was born Friday, July 30, 1937, the son of Wolford L. Adams and Blanche E. (Hedrick) Adams. Robert graduated from Broad Ripple High School with the Class of 1956, and went on to serve in the Army National Guard from 1957-1960.

Robert lived in Indiana for several years and then relocated to Largo, Florida later in life. He returned back to Indiana where he spent the remainder of his life surrounded by his loving family. He was a baptized believer in Christ, and was always eager to help with the church’s outreach programs.

In Largo, Florida, he was a school crossing guard and in Indiana he was a crossing guard for Hope Baptist Church, where he was a member. He was fondly called “Mr. Bear” by the children. He loved the children and the nickname they gave him. He was a member of Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department, and also served with the Largo Police Department as a volunteer for two years.

Robert loved watching all sports, but college basketball tournaments were his favorite. He will be fondly remembered and truly missed by both his family and his church family.

Robert is survived by: his wife, Pat Adams; his four children; four step-children; eighteen grandchildren and a slew of great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Winter Adams; his daughter, Shelby Peska; and his parents, Wolford and Blanche Adams.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at I.U. Health West Hospital for taking such great care of Robert in his final days.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Hope Baptist Church, 1055 North Girls School Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46214. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:30 pm. The service will follow at 1:30 pm.

Neptune Society is in charge of cremation arrangements.
