

Owen was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Marsha Gardner Simms and Owen Simms Sr. He spent his childhood and early adult years in Hanover Park, Illinois, where he built lasting friendships and cherished many memories before eventually making his home in Indianapolis, Indiana.
As a child, Owen was given the nickname “Bill,” a name primarily used by his family. The nickname was inspired by a song his mother sang to him during his childhood.
Owen was a loving son, brother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him. He was known for his remarkable intelligence, exceptional writing skills, and unwavering loyalty. He will be remembered for his generosity toward family and friends.
As a teenager, Owen began developing his relationship with the Lord and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. He continued to grow in his faith, maintaining a close connection with the Almighty that influenced every aspect of his life.
Owen previously worked in restaurant management, where he developed a passion for cooking. He enjoyed preparing delicious meals for his family and often cooked weekly. His specialty was omelets.
He was an avid reader and had a deep appreciation for 1970s television shows, with one of his favorites being Threes Company. Music also played a significant role in his life. Owen was known to have multiple MP3 players filled with a wide variety of genres, and he found great joy in his love for music.
Owen was known for his tremendous sense of humor. He had a unique ability to bring laughter to any room and often shared funny anecdotes that left others smiling and laughing out loud.
He also had a deep love for animals and was truly a cat person. Owen took exceptional care of the family’s cats and showed them great affection throughout his life.
Beyond his immediate family, Owen maintained deep and meaningful friendships formed during his grammar school, high school, and young adult years. These relationships lasted throughout his life.
Owen is survived by his mother, Marsha Gardner Simms; his father, Owen Simms Sr.; his sister, Loren Simms; and a host of cousins and cherished friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Owen was deeply devoted to his family. He made it his priority to support and protect those he loved and often sacrificed his own needs for theirs. He was known for his selflessness, his kind heart, and his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and pets, as well as his profound faith in our merciful and loving Father.
He will forever be loved and missed, not because of what he did, but because of who he was.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Owen now rests in the presence of the Lord. His life and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
