

Michael Roy Johnson, age 85, born September 22, 1940, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on April 26, 2026. He was a dedicated professional, veteran and committed family member.
In 1960, Michael followed his childhood dreams and made a bold decision to travel by boat to the United States of America. After spending a short time with family in New York, Mike traveled to Indiana where he began his new job in a foreign land and started a family. Shortly after reaching Indiana, Michael was asked to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965.
Following his military service, he was employed at L.S. Ayres and Co. and subsequently at Shoe Carnival, where he concluded his career upon retirement. During his retirement, he pursued a variety of hobbies and interests, including an enduring appreciation for all genres of music, watching Formula 1 racing, enjoyment of travel, and engagement in farm life during his final years. He valued the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and maintained a particular interest in steam trains.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Andy) Herrin, Michael (Tina) Johnson, Patrick Johnson and Pamela (Jamie) Pennington; grandchildren, Robert (Mimi) Craven, Jessica Dallas, Taylor (Logan) Richey, and Andrew E. (Courtney) Herrin; Lauren (Sowards) Lamar, Landon Johnson, Rhys Johnson, Reagan Johnson, Lindsey Overton, Ryne Overton, Zach Murphy; and great-grandchildren Ashton Craven, Lucas Craven, Lyncoln Richey, Bruin Richey, Hazel Dallas, Carter Herrin, Kennedy Lamar, Noah Lamar, Parker Lamar, Gracie and James Wilson, Onyx Overton; Sister-in-Law Rhain Johnson, nephew Matt Johnson and niece Anna Pearce.
His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the lives he touched.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Gweneth Johnson; and brother, Andrew Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at his daughter Kathleen's home, 5685 W. Co. Rd. 100 S, N. Vernon. Come share your memories with us.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to A New Hospice of Indiana or one of many Veterans Organizations.
Neptune Society has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.
