Born in Cincinnati, Ohio “Marge” was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker. A member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, Indiana, from 1959-2021, she served on many committees in the Altar Society. She also served as a caller for meals for funeral masses and as an attendant for the parish’s servers. In more recent years she was a member of the congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Carmel, Indiana.
Marge was an avid gardener and steadfastly cared for her beautiful flowers until she retired at 94. She was a longtime member of the South-Central Rose Society of Indiana, and served as the organization’s Vice President for four years, and then as President for another four. She and her husband greatly enjoyed dancing, being active with the Ballroom Dance Club for decades. Then Marge continued to dance into her 90’s. During her 80’s and even 90’s she could be found regularly delivering Meals on Wheels and doing more than her fair share for holiday dinners.
Marge, who dearly loved her family, is survived by daughter Lynn (Bob), son-in-law Tom Harris (the late Sharon), grandchildren Kristi (Mike), Traci (Brad), TJ (Mari), Nikki (Kyle), Allison (Scott), Angie (MB), and Lexi (Bennett); and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Steinmetz was preceded in death by husband Harold (Bud) Steinmetz, daughters Sharon and Caryl, father and mother Joseph and Margaret Noppert of Cincinnati, and her siblings Jack, Jane, Charles, Joe, Frank, Francis and Joanne.
The family would like to thank the thoughtful staff at Magnolia Springs Bridgewater and Enlight Hospice (with a special nod to Lori and Cassandra for their warm and dedicated care).
A Memorial Service will be held on May 29, 2026, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 14598 Oak Ridge Rd, Carmel, IN 46032.
Neptune Society has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.
