June “Junie/June Bug” Ellis, 93, passed away on the evening of July 15, 2018 at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, IN. June was the only child of Russell and Dorothy Goodrich, born in 1925, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
June graduated from Shortridge High School in 1943. She earned a B.S. in Education at Butler University in 1947 where she was a cheerleader and proud member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. June also met her husband, Dr. William N. Ellis, at Butler. They were married for 53 years until he passed away peacefully in 2001.
June is survived by her two children, Sharon Adkins and Richard Ellis, son-in-law, Ronald Adkins, three grandchildren, Kendra Butt, Russell Adkins, and Lisa Marie Ryder, and their families, including ten great-grandchildren.
June dedicated the majority of her career to teaching history at I.P.S. School #9 and later served as a substitute teacher at North Central High School where she was fondly referred to as the “Super Sub” until her retirement.
June was an enthusiastic member of her community. She was President of the Marion County Medical Auxiliary and was an active member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church where she worked with the elderly and sang in the choir. June’s voice filled the sanctuary, whether in song or in a robust “Thanks be to God” at dismissal. As a guest lecturer for many church and women’s groups, June enthralled audiences with stories not entirely untrue. Her embellished tales showed first-hand how to live with stress with laughter. June was an avid player of bridge; her games were memorable more than they were victorious.
June brightened the world with her many artistic tributes. She enjoyed decorating birdhouses and painting angels. She was well known for making jewelry for family and friends, as well as the residents, visitors, and staff of Hamilton Trace.
June was a beautiful and admirable soul, who was best known for her zeal for life. Many will miss her one-of-a-kind stories and her ability to make one laugh. She played by her own rules and modeled what it looked like to march to the beat of your own drum.
A joyful celebration of June Bug’s life will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 4601 N. Emerson Ave.,Indianapolis, with visitation at 10:00 A.M., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church (4601 N.
