Jon Michael Ware of Indianapolis passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of sixty. He was born on September 14, 1965, in La Porte, IN, where he grew up surrounded by his family and a neighborhood full of friends and support.
He graduated from La Porte High School in 1984 and Ball State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management.
He worked for the State of Indiana for thirty-four years, retiring as a Solid Waste Compliance Inspector with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management in 2024.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin (Buddy) Ware.
On June 20, 1992, he married Jill Dishinger, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Jordan (Kurt), Julia, and Jake, all of Indianapolis. He is also survived by one Granddaughter, Kelani Smith of Indianapolis, his mother Delena Ware of Harrisburg, AR, two brothers, Jerry of Clewiston, FL and Jeffery of Indianapolis and one foster sister, Donna Barrier of La Porte.
He was inducted into the La Porte Slicers Football Hall of Fame in 2022 and would, when prodded, speak of his high school football exploits, most of which were exaggerated or invented to gain the greatest comedic effect. His brush with greatness was achieved in 1989 when, as a waiter, he took the breakfast order of the actor Sam Elliot and served him his omelet during the filming of the movie Prancer. Sam exclaimed it the best omelet ever served to him, according to Jon’s memory. He was known for putting a smile on everyone’s face due to his sense of humor, easy going attitude, and generous nature. Jon looked forward to spending his later years at his lake house on Lake Poinsett in Harrisburg, AR. His lake house was his refuge from the stress of life where he could enjoy being in the country, fishing, and visiting with good friends in the area.
Family and friends are invited to attend an open house/celebration of life in Indianapolis and/or Harrisburg,
AR. Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to The American Cancer
Society or The Little Red Door Cancer Agency/Indianapolis.
