John Wilford Riggs, 80, passed away on October 5, 2026, at Majestic Care of Bedford, following a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Born on April 21, 1946, in Bedford, Indiana, John lived a full and adventurous life, filled with experiences and stories he loved sharing with anyone willing to listen.
John spent his working years as a driver and laborer for the Bedford Street Department. Before returning to his Indiana roots in 1993, he worked for several businesses in California. On November 10, 1994, he married the love of his life, Myra Roudebush. Together, they shared nearly 32 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
Anyone who knew John knew he was never short on a good story. Whether reminiscing about one of his many jobs, hiking the Grand Canyon, or traveling across the country on Route 66 with his family in his younger days, John loved sharing his adventures with others. Closer to home, he was happiest spending time outdoors, always finding something to tend to around the house. Mowing the lawn, in particular, was more than just a chore for John—it was a true passion, and he took great pride in a job well done.
Faith was an important part of John's life. He was a devoted member of Solsberry Christian Church and formerly attended Cincinnati Christian Church. His Christian faith was a source of strength, guidance, and comfort throughout his life.
John is survived by his loving wife, Myra Riggs; son, Colt (Nicole) Roudebush; daughter, Krystle (Zac) Voegel; sister, Deidra Marsh; and sisters-in-law, Iris Riggs and Margaret Riggs. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Roudebush, and Lucy Kate, Molly, and Tyler Voegel, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mariene Riggs; brothers, Don and David Riggs; sister, Yvonne Sandefur; and brothers-in-law, Max Sandefur and Bob Marsh.
A funeral service will be held on November 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bedford Free Methodist Church, with Adam Strauser officiating. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Bedford Free Methodist Church, Solsberry Christian Church, or a charity of your choice.
John will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of a good story, his devotion to family and faith, and the simple joys that made his life uniquely his own.
