Joanetta Fay Jones, age 78, of Peru, Indiana passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at The Waters in Peru. She was born in Bowen, Kentucky on June 23, 1946 to William Townsend and Edna (Hudson) Townsend Reed. She married Jerry Lee Jones and he survives.
Joanetta attended Peru High School and graduated in 1964. She worked as a Social Worker for twenty years. She loved her job and the fulfillment she received by helping others. She had a true nurturing heart. Joanetta never met a stranger and went out of her way to help anyone. She and her husband, Jerry, faithfully attended Zion Chapel Church. Joanetta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She touched the lives of many and she will be missed.
During the summer, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family at their lake home in Monticello, Indiana. They also enjoyed many years of camping at Ruth Park Campgrounds, located just across the yard from their home. To get away from the cold, harsh winters, they enjoyed living in Fort Myers, Florida for a few months.
Joanetta and Jerry had a family pet named Lola. Each night after supper, whether Joanetta was finished eating or not, Lola had a habit of grabbing a toy and bumping it into Joanetta’s leg so she would throw it down the hall for Lola to catch.
Left behind to cherish her memory are: her loving husband, Jerry; son, Jeff (Mary) Jones; grandchildren, Dustin Jones (Cassie Nappanee), Braxton (Codi) Jones, Bobbi (Marcus) Brown, Kasey (Jamie) Williams, Sara Anderson, Kelly (Martin) Kuhns; a sister, Helena White; a brother, Jay Townsend; several nieces and nephews, and foster children.
She was preceded in death by: a son, Jerry Lee Jones II; mother, Edna Reed; father, Bill Townsend Jr.; step-father, Jim Reed; a sister, Thelma Arthur; and brothers, Bill Townsend, Bob Townsend, and George Townsend.
