James graduated from Laurel High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a tool and die operator and machinist. James loved to work in his garden, tinker in his garage, and work on tractors.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Turner, his brothers, Tommy Turner and Ellis Turner, and his sisters, Bertha Hokey, Alma Hunter, andElizabeth Bishop. James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia (Estridge) Turner; his son, Terry Turner (Debbie); his daughter, Jenna Turner; his grandchildren, Derrick Turner (Melissa), Christa Cole (Ivan), Jackie Turner, Corey Turner, Kelsey Colter; seven great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; and his sister, Viola Benson.
Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children, via Riley Children's Foundation, 30 S. Meridian Street, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
