James Milton Grigsby, a loving husband and father, died unexpectedly on March 4, 2023, at his home. Jim was born on July 11, 1957, in San Angelo, Texas. He spent most of his childhood in Lufkin, Texas. After graduating high school, Jim joined Up with People and spent time in Spain performing and making lifelong friends. He later moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he began working for Tandy Corporation (Radio Shack) and graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) with a degree in business.
Jim was an audio and electronics buff and had a successful career with companies such as H.H. Gregg, Maytag, Thomson Consumer Electronics (RCA), and Mitsubishi Electric. He also worked for the South Madison School Corporation and most recently for Weston's Appliances in Muncie, Indiana. Sales was definitely in his blood, and he even used those skills at numerous garage sales at our home including jovial music and hot dogs to keep our shoppers in a buying mood. Jim never met a stranger and was a social kind of guy.
Jim met his wife Holly while working at Thomson and they married in 2000. They raised two daughters, to whom Jim was a devoted father and loved earning the title of "Softball Dad." He spent many evenings and weekends at the ball fields supporting his daughters in many ways. He was their loudest cheerleader, their chauffeur to practice, lessons, and games, and volunteered at the Pendleton Softball complex. He loved getting to know the girls on their teams as well as their families and coaches who he considered friends.
All of Jim’s friends knew he had quite a sense of humor and was a true southern gentleman. He loved making people smile or laugh with his fun-hearted nature and southern accent. He would make a special trip to the bank for $2 bills to use for tips for servers just to see the look on their faces. He was known to many as “Tennessee” as his wardrobe consisted of LOTS of UT orange as well as TCU purple or Montreal Canadiens gear.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Holly Grigsby, and daughters Mackenzie Grigsby and Olivia Grigsby as well as his sister Kathy (Glenn) Goehring and nephews Cody (Brandi) Goehring, Turner (Shelby) Basham, nieces Kirby (Justin) Bryce, Meredith (Keith) Johnson and Aubrey (Ty) Brown as well as great nieces and great nephews. Jim is also survived by his faithful pup Toby who will miss the special playtimes (laser pointer fun) he shared with him. He also had numerous friends near and far who he cherished dearly.
Jim is preceded in death by his precious mother he adored, Jo Ann Handley, and his uncle, Bill Stroud. He was also preceded by his faithful dog, Bella, who was his walking companion and loyal friend for nine years.
The family will have visitation on Saturday, April 1, 2023, beginning at 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 pm. Both will be held at Huntsville Good Shepherd Community Church located at 3126 Market St, Pendleton, IN 46064.
