Herman Ward

Herman Ward, 71, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at Community South on Saturday, August 26, 2023. He was born November 30, 1951, to Herman Ward and Betty (Fitzhugh) Ward. Herman married Aurora Angelica Donaldson and she survives. He earned an Associate’s degree and became a computer technician. He worked for Amtrak Railroad before retiring.

“I wanted to write a personal note about my dear sweet husband, Mr. Ward. It was easy to admire him. He had an exceptional work ethic and was intelligent, talented, sweet and funny. But the thing I admire most of all is that at a very young age he took the opportunities that came to him and made the most of them. He came here to Indiana from Philadelphia as a very young man with Job Corp and eventually became one of their counselors, notorious for putting on a great bit for the talent show (Earth, Wind & Fire of course). Later, when a physical challenge manifested, he completed his degree in computer science and found a career he loved. So, I am asking that instead of sending flowers, that you make a donation that will support young men in the city to find and take the kind opportunities that he did to make a better life for himself and his children.”

Left behind to cherish his memory are: his wife, Aurora; a daughter, Sharon; a brother, Karrington; two sisters, Marilyn and Bonnie; and several generations of nieces and nephews; a sister in-law Pearl, brothers in-law John, Harold, Ron, Mario, and Dave; and three generations of nieces and nephews-in-law.

Herman was preceded in death by: his parents, Herman and Betty; a son, Bruce; a brother, Bruce; a sister, Sondra; and a sister in-law Marion.

A graveside service will be Friday, September 15, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., at Washington Park East, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. Please bring a chair if you need one.
