Helen was born in Gaston, IN on May 6, 1927 to Mabel Marie (Richards) Wright and Kenneth S. Wright. Her grandparents, Ed and Nellie Wright, raised her in the Matthews area. The Matthews Covered Bridge was always dear to her and she had many stories about the bridge and river that were near the H. R. and Rachel Wright family farm.
She attended Gas City High School and was on her own at an early age. She worked at Slick Glass, Knox Glass and retired from Thompson (RCA). Helen was a member of Temple Congregational Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, rearranging her furniture and especially traveling.
Helen proudly served in the U.S. Navy (Waves) during WWII and was stationed in Washington D.C. She was honorably discharged in March 1945 as a Seaman First Class.
She is survived by daughters, Jill (Larry) Burnside, Salli Jones, and Robyn Mitchell, all of Marion; sons, David (Jennifer) Huffman, Gainesville, TX and Steve (Jackie) Huffman, Boise, ID; grandchildren, Staci (Jeff) Price, Fairmount, IN, Paige (Craig) Bishop, Suwanee, GA, Dr. Bethany (John) Geyman, Zionsville, IN, Chassie Huffman, Dallas, TX, Jobina (Tanner) Thurman, Frisco, TX, Juliana Ho, Gainesville, TX, Riley Jones, Bloomington, IN, Matt Mitchell, Flora, IN, Ryan Mitchell, Bloomingdale, GA, Aaron (Brittny) Huffman, USAF, Oahu, HI, Amber (Alex) Balderas, Boise, ID; great-grandchildren, Jaelah (Cody Hunt), Bridger, Kanani and Soren Price, Jacob and Koberly Bishop, Logan, Mallory, Aiden, Taytum and Beckett Geyman, Jayden Thurman, Zane, Zoe and Nolan Mitchell, and Michael Balderas; and special extended family, cousins, Charles Wright, Marion and Carol (Craig) Smith, Rowlett, TX.
Although they were divorced, she and her ex-husband, Howard W. Huffman, remained good friends until his death in 1997. Helen was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, son, Tim Reynolds, and son-in-law, Jim Jones.
Helen had many special friends that she enjoyed visiting with. Thanks to Linda Kuester, she was able to go on the Honor Flight to visit the memorials in Washington, D.C., and that trip meant a lot to her.
On Saturday, March 10, 2018, a service at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Avenue, Marion, will be held at 11 AM with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Noon. According to her wishes, there will be no viewing. She will be cremated and buried at the Marion VA National Cemetery at a later date.
