Gordon L. Schmitz, 82, passed away on April 7, 2017. He was born October 11, 1934 to Oscar I. and Leola A. Schmitz, in Evansville, IN. Gordon graduated from Bosse High School and Purdue University. He was a United States Army veteran, enjoyed living with his family in Argentina for several years, retired from Eli Lilly & Co., and at the time of his death operated KLI which produces Entertainer’s Secret throat spray. Gordon was active at his church, Epworth United Methodist Church, and his fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa, and enjoyed volunteering at Riley Hospital and Crestview Elementary School on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Castleton, where he was a charter member. He enjoyed playing tennis at Indianapolis Racquet Club, spending time with his family, and his favorite role was that of Grandfather to Riley and Drew Schmitz. Gordon never knew a stranger and was generous with his time and kindness. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years: Suzanne; their two children Tammie Schmitz, of Indianapolis, IN, and David Schmitz (wife Nancy), of Westfield, IN; his grandchildren Riley and Drew Schmitz of Westfield, IN; and his brother, Marion Schmitz of Redding, California. Visitation will be held on Saturday April 15, 2015 at noon, with a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Epworth United Methodist Church, 6450 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46220.
