George W Bates III

It is with great sadness that the family of George W. Bates III. announces his passing on November 19, 2017, at the age of 82 years with his wife, Kathy, at his side. George was born in Lafayette to George W. and Marjorie (Sleeper) Bates. On July 22, 2012, George was married to Kathy Stucker-Bates, aboard the Madam Carrol on Lake Freeman in Monticello. George served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Radio Mechanic Third Class earning a Good Conduct Medal and later earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona. George spent the majority of his career working in the aerospace industry in California. George loved his work as a designer, engineering manager, and ultimately as CEO. Above his work, George loved to make his family, friends, and strangers happy by sharing a hearty laugh, a story, or simply his warm smile. George was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. George was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle, his parents George and Marjorie, and his sister Nancy Rainier (Jim). George will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 5 years, Kathy, and his children, George Jr. (Sabrina), Julie Soto (Pat), Angie Blanchette (Kevin), Terri Wealing (Scott), Todd Stucker (Shannon). George will also be fondly remembered by his 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Kelsie (Michael), Lauren, Chelsea (James), Ciera, Cassea (Bryan), Bailey, Logan, Whitney Mackenzie Mikaela Haydn, Lydia, Tabitha, and Elyse, and 4 great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Nathan, Jeremiah, MaKenna. George will also be remembered by his nieces, Deb (John), Ann (Andy), Kitty (Jeff), nephew, Brad (Michele), extended family, and many dear friends.
