He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, LaVera, his parents, Erwin and Elsie Leiss, and by his sister, Trudy Clark (Ray). He is survived by his children, Larry (Earline), Jean, and Michael (Mary Louise), and his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Erwin was a dedicated husband and father, participating in Little League, Boy Scouts and family vacations.
He was born in Germany on August 15, 1923, and his family escaped to the United States when he was 5 years old. He served in the Army on Ascension Island during World War II as a mechanic.
Most of his life was spent in Tampa, until moving to Indiana two years ago.
After working at Tampa Electric Company for 20 years, he owned and operated Electro-Mechanical Sales (later named Erwin and Michael Supply) for 23 years.
Erwin enjoyed golfing, family and community participation. He was active in the Jaycees, Purchasing Association, Traffic Club and he was a Past Master of his Masonic lodge. For a few years he enjoyed volunteering as a docent at the Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach, FL.
