He graduated from Salem High School in 1997. In 2001, he earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University. His Masters degree was earned in School Administration and Leadership from IUPUI.
Eric began his teaching career at Bradie M. Shrom Elementary School in Salem, Indiana, where he taught third and fifth grades for six years. He later taught in the Indianapolis Public Schools, and was on staff at Eastridge Elementary in Warren Township at the time of his death.
Eric was baptized at Mount Tabor Christian Church in Salem, Indiana, where he was very involved with the youth group and later taught Sunday School and Wednesday night classes.
Eric and Bethany Maxfield were married on July 14, 2007. Their family grew to five children over the years. Eric loved God, his family, traveling, cooking, and his friends.
Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Marilyn Mays, and his uncle, Ron Mays.He is survived by his wife, Bethany, and their five children: Elikia, Johnathan, Elijah, Abigail, and Lillian; his parents, Patricia and Ben Bowling (Salem, IN); his in-laws, Paul and Brenda Maxfield (Jaco, Costa Rica); his brother, Aaron (Julie) Ashabraner (Carmel, IN); his sister, Lisa (Tim) Nice (Salem, IN); his brother-in-law, Nathan (Eva) Maxfield (Austin TX); and his nephews and niece, Alex Ashabraner, Jaelen Nice, and Natalie Ashabraner. In addition, he is survived by his aunt, Teresa Mays; his uncle, Brian Mays; his great uncle, Larry (Patricia) Shrum; and his great aunt, Maggie Short.
A host of friends from his childhood, church, and professional life mourn his passing.
