Duane A. Wakefield (AKA Gabe, Big D or D.A.) passed away surrounded by family on August 29, 2017 in Terre Haute, Indiana at the age of 84. Duane was born in Pontiac, Illinois on July 27, 1933. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Whitehurst during the Korean Conflict as a Sonar man, or as he referred to himself; a ping jockey. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Illinois and Florida. Duane retired from C.F. Industries in Terre Haute, Indiana. He and his wife Jackie moved to Fanning Springs, FL in 1998 where he resided until his death. Duane’s favorite pastimes were first and foremost spending time with family and friends, especially snuggling babies. He was a long time farmer and loved animals (especially dogs), traveling, and winning Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune from the comfort of his recliner. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, two brothers-in-law, a grandson, two nieces, and one nephew. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Jackie (AKA Queen Bee, Sapphire), four daughters; Sherri Wakefield-Mangin of Colorado Springs, CO, Vicki Flora and husband Rich of Belle Air Bluffs, FL, Kathi Wakefield-Trimble and companion Tom Duff of Brownsburg, IN, and Wendi Wakefield of Redwood City, CA; seven grandchildren Josh, Bess, Krista, Nicole, Kirsten, Kaitlyn, and Kortney and seventeen great-grandchildren. Just prior to his death, he learned his eighteenth great-grandchild is expected. He is also survived by one brother, two sisters, one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many dear friends. Graveside services will be held at Rosedale Cemetery in Rosedale, Indiana at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 1, 2017 followed by a reception at the Rosedale Civic Center.
