Clara Christina Long

Our loving mother and grandmother, Clara Christina Long, 100, of New Albany, Indiana, peacefully passed on Monday, September 11, 2023, at her daughter’s home. She was born in Brown County, Wisconsin, on February 19, 1923, to Edward Gosz and Mary (Wilhelm) Gosz. She married Dorrance A. Long Sr., and he preceded her in death in October of 1997.

As a homemaker, Clara’s creative interests were flower and vegetable gardening, sewing and needle-working, and she was a wonderful cook. As a grandmother, she enjoyed attending birthday parties, family holiday gatherings, grandchildren’s sporting events, family weddings, and road trips with her family. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany.

Clara is survived by a sister Martha Johnson who resides in Franklin, Tennessee; her son, Dorrance A. Long Jr., who lives in New Albany Indiana; and her daughter, Mary Evers (Johnny Evers) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her surviving grandchildren are Carole Long Lendry (Steven Lendry), Jonathan Long (Anna Long), Lynette Sabino-Alonz, Scot Evers (Emily Evers), and Todd Evers (Nicole Evers), as well as several great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Clara is also survived by many nieces and nephews living throughout the United States.

A Celebration of Life service for family members will occur October 10, 2023, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, Kentucky. The interment of her ashes alongside her husband, Dorrance, will occur following the service.

Neptune Society is in charge of cremation arrangements.
