Tyrell was born in Denver, Colorado, and lived in Aurora for many years before briefly moving to Cheverly, Maryland. He settled permanently in Houston, Texas, in 2004. After moving to Houston, Tyrell attended Boone Elementary and Two Dimensions Preparatory Academy, before enrolling at KIPP Liberation College Preparatory (KLCP) for middle school. Tyrell was a proud “KIPP-ster” and a member of the founding class of both KLCP in Third Ward and KIPP Sunnyside High School. He fully embodied the KIPP way, and his love for his KIPP “team and family” knew no bounds. Tyrell was also passionate about football. He played on both the offensive and defensive lines throughout his career. After graduating from KIPP Sunnyside, Tyrell received a football scholarship to Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, where he continued playing football while studying business administration. After college, Tyrell worked at MC Square, Barbara Jordan International School, and the Savoy Houston. Like much of his family, Tyrell had a true entrepreneurial spirit. During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked independently as a pilot driver in commercial transportation and in private personal security before pivoting to the insurance industry, where he trained and worked as an adjuster alongside many of his closest family and friends.
Tyrell and his fiancée shared a love that was truly one of a kind.Their story began in August 2005 when they first met at KLCP. Even then, there was a spark between them, but it wasn’t until November 17, 2006, that they officially became a couple.Too shy to admit their feelings directly, she asked him out through a mutual friend—a memory she fondly recalls, often teasing that he was the shy one. From that day forward, their bond only grew stronger. They were inseparable—soulmates who shared everything from traveling and trying new foods to staying up late talking or laughing at funny videos. Their relationship was full of joy, deep connection, and unwavering love. She lovingly called him her “Teddy Bear,” and to all who knew them, it was clear that theirs was a rare and beautiful love—one that will live on in her heart forever. Tyrell’s life was also deeply enriched by a close-knit brotherhood of friends, many of whom had been by his side since childhood. These brothers-in-heart shared countless memories— from the classroom to the football fields and beyond. They grew up together, holding each other accountable and celebrating each other’s victories. This unbreakable bond was rooted in love, loyalty, and laughter. Tyrell was the glue of the group — the one who brought people together. His friends carry his legacy forward through every embrace, every story, and every promise to continue lifting each other up, just as Tyrell always did.
Affectionately known as "TB" by family and friends,Tyrell was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him. Despite the challenges of his heart condition,Tyrell’s hope and love never wavered. He continued to show up for those in his life, fighting tirelessly and courageously through each diagnosis and prognosis. We are grateful to the nurses, doctors, chaplains, and staff of Houston Methodist Hospital for their care and support.
Tyrell’s life was marked by love, joy, compassion, and strength. His passing brings profound sorrow to his family and friends, but also eternal gratitude for the thirty precious years he spent with us. We ask that you remember Tyrell as we will: warm and big-hearted. May we all find peace and comfort in his memory.
A celebration of his life will be held at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas on May 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
