Born in 1946 in Rochester NY, Dad was raised by his adopted parents, Ray and Alice Schultz. He graduated high school and started at the University of Tulsa in the early 60’s, eventually joining the Air Force in 1965.
Assigned to military police/security force, he performed security duties for an airborne command platform. In early 1968, he met his love, Hettie, in Washington DC. They were engaged a few months later and married on August 25, 1968 - two days after his discharge from Air Force in Knoxville, TN.
He decided to return to college and attended Monroe Community College in Rochester from 1968-1970, then switched to the University of Tennessee (1970-1972) where he completed his B.S. in Geology and a minor in Math. He continued his education at Pennsylvania State University (1972-1974) where he achieved an M.S. in Geophysics. Tom’s career in the oil and gas industry took him a few places, working for Chevron, Sohio, and BP, in New Orleans, Cleveland, and finally settling primarily in Houston. After a brief stint in a doctoral program back at Tennessee, Tom came back to the industry in Houston and worked for CGG-Veritas until his retirement.
Tom is survived by his wife, Hettie, children Tom and Annie, grandchildren Leia, Savannah, and Lillian, and a newly found extended family up north, including his birth mother.
Tom’s family will be hosting a “Celebration of life” reception for family and friends. In lieu of flowers or cards, we ask that you please donate to his favorite charity: https://www.stjude.org/promotion/impact-giving-pm.html.
