

Thomas Edward (Bud) Hampton died on June 20, 2021 at home in Houston, Texas. Bud was born in Hannibal Missouri on March 9, 1936 to Joseph Moore Hampton and Marie Alice (Burditt) Hampton. He was the second of five children. He grew up in Monroe City, Missouri and was baptized in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City.
Bud attended school in Monroe City and graduated from high school in 1955. He worked in the area at local farms until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 15, 1955. He was awarded the NAVY E AWARD, five Navy Good Conduct medals, National Defense Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of South Viet Nam Service Medal and Navy Expeditionary Forces Medal with oak leaf cluster. He was a Shellback receiving the Ancient Order of the SHELLBACK in 1959 while aboard the USS Valcour (AVP-55}. Bud was an Aviation Storekeeper and achieved the rate of Petty Officer 1st Class. After serving in various stations, ships and squadrons, he retired on January 31, 1975.
After serving, Bud worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Eagle Molded Products in civilian life and retired in 1998. In retirement, he used his Navy skills to focus on genealogy and travelled to research family history. He truly was the record-keeper for the Hampton family.
Bud had many contacts through his genealogy work including extended family throughout the country. On many of his research trips he traveled with his good friends Bob and AJ Ellis.
Bud was proceeded in death by his parents Joseph Moore and Marie Alice Hampton, his brother Joseph Leo and sister-in-law Veita Jo Hampton, and brother-in-law Craig Edward (Sam) Blevins. He is survived by brothers James Moore Hampton (Jack-Lynn), George William Hampton (Lois) and sister Judith Marie (Hampton) Blevins and niece Teresa Hampton and nephews William (Bill) Moore Hampton, James Michael Hampton, Michael Sean Hampton, Chad Daniel Hampton and Thomas Wade Blevins and several great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Horseshoe Bay, Texas pending arrangements and internment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Marion County, Missouri.
