Shirley Jean DeCoster, age 90 and a resident of Katy, TX, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2019 surrounded by family. She was born in Holdrege, Phelps City Nebraska on September 11, 1929. Shirley is pre-deceased by her parents, Oscar and Anna Carlson, her husband, Victor DeCoster (December 2017), and son Alan DeCoster (February 2016). Shirley is survived by her sister Dorothy Moore, son and daughter in law, Keith and Lisa DeCoster, Grandchildren; Justin DeCoster, Christine and husband Bradley Hager, Catherine DeCoster, Cole and wife Scarlett DeCoster and Carson DeCoster. Five great grandchildren; Maximus, Rebecca, Alice, Brooklyn, and Greyson.
Shirley’s parents moved to Colorado when she was young. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was a majorette and Miss Littelton, Colorado. Shirley graduated from Barnes school of business in Denver, Co. She began work as a legal secretary for a prominent local attorney in Littleton, CO. She met the love of her life Victor DeCoster while living in Littleton. They married in 1950 and Shirley continued her career working for Gates Rubber company, US federal center and the DOW chemical company. After, Vic graduated from college they started their family. They lived many places including; Denver, Concord, CA., New Jersey, Cleveland, OH, and Spring, TX. In 1988 they moved to “April Sound”, Conroe, TX where they lived until 2016. After failing health, they moved to Katy TX to be close to family
Shirley cherished time with her family. Her love for all her family was exceptional. However; the bond she had with her sister Dorothy Moore was magical. She had numerous hobbies including; gardening, golfing, cooking, quilting, playing bridge, travelling, and church activities. She loved to talk about weather.
Shirley will be sadly missed by all her family, friends and care givers.
Shirley Jean DeCoster’s final resting place will be at Houston National Cemetery with her beloved husband.
