Born in Amarillo, Texas to Sammie and Leonard Nunn, Sammiejeanne loved music and was accomplished at playing the trumpet and French horn in the Amarillo High School Marching Band. She was elected Band Queen in 1948 and graduated in 1949.
Sammiejeanne had a varied work experience as a draftsman in oil and gas industry, and as a Weight and Balance Technician for TWA and Braniff Airlines; but music was always a big part of her life.
She taught herself to play piano- picking out anything she heard by “ear”. Her home was never without a piano, and for a time, she worked on Sunday afternoons playing for dinners at Luby’s Cafeteria in southwest Houston.
Sammiejeanne was Baptized into Buchanan Street Baptist Church at six years old, and from that time forward, followed her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A gifted evangelist, she interjected the question “Are you a Christian?” into any conversation with a new acquaintance. She is, no doubt, celebrating in heaven with some of those people now.
Sammiejeanne is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Sanders) Connell and son-in-law, Tommy Connell Sr.; sister, Judy (Nunn) Henderson and husband, Billy; and brother-in-law, Jerry Buchanan; plus four grandchildren: Tommy Connell, Jr. and wife Ruth; April (Connell) Roche and husband, Justin; Dash Connell and wife, Shae; and Caitlin (Connell) Chaney and husband, Jeff; , and by 10 grandchildren and (3) nieces and (2)nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Nunn and his wife, Doris; and sister, Charlotte (Nunn) Buchanan.
A Memorial Service will be held at Katy Bible Church, 2500 Ave. D., Katy, Texas 77493, on April 24, 2026, beginning at 1:00 pm.
