Russell Eugene Nordstrom passed away on Saturday, February 25. He was born on the 15th of March, 1932 in Hammond, Indiana. He had many passions: baseball, stamp collecting; roses, bridge, church and traveling the world.
Russ graduated from Edwardsville High School in June, 1949. While in high school, he earned the Boy Scouts’ highest award of Eagle Scout. He was also President of the Senior Class
Russ graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. While at Purdue he was a member of Theta Tau Fraternity, the Skull and Crescent honorary, the Inter-Fraternity Council and the Iron Key Society.
At Purdue, Russ met the love of his life Vivian. Upon graduating from Purdue, Russ and Vivian were married in Downers Grove, IL on June 6, 1953.
Russ worked for two years at Cities Service Company, after which he answered the call to military service. After serving two years in the Army – he joined Shell Oil Company as a project engineer. He retired from Shell in March, 1992 after thirty-six years of service.
Upon retirement, Russ and Vivian bought a house in Estes Park, CO where they spent their summers enjoying activities with their fellow members of the Summer Residents Association (SRA). Russ was an active member of the SRA, serving on the board and a term as President.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest A and Mildred M. Nordstrom and his brother Stuart S. Nordstrom.
Russ is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Vivian; his children Keith D. Nordstrom and wife Jennifer; Kathryn N. McLaughlin and husband, John; Steven R Nordstrom and wife Allison; grandchildren Lisa N. Harris and husband Chris; Katy M. Finney and husband Chris; Sean C. McLaughlin; Russell J. Nordstrom; and Madison K. Nordstrom; and great-grandson John Owen Finney.
A memorial service will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, March 4 at the First United Methodist Church of Conroe at 4308 W. Davis Street, Conroe, Texas 77304. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family and share their favorite memory of Russ in the narthex of the church. Refreshments will be served by Russ and Vivian’s Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Conroe.
