Pete, as he was known to friends and colleagues, was born on June 7, 1930, and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. He never stopped serving his community, his country, and God. He was an outgoing man who never met a stranger and always liked and found something good in every person he met. This allowed him to have many lifetime friends.
Pete served in the Navy, on four different aircraft carriers, from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. His service started a lifelong love of all things patriotic. Pete was rarely seen in later years without wearing a USA-inspired shirt.
After a short time at Texas A&M, Pete transferred to the University of Houston where he met his future wife, Annette Trigg, on a blind date. They were engaged a quick six weeks later and married on September 27, 1957, at Grace Lutheran Church in Houston.
Pete and Annette moved to McAllen, Texas, with Continental Oil Company where their daughters, Cathy and Suzanne, were born in Mission and McAllen. After they returned to Houston their daughters, Christy and Tracy joined them.
As the owner of Esquire Fine Cleaners, you could always find Pete starched and well-pressed for a night out on the town or hanging around the house. He always lived life to the fullest - whether he and Annette were entertaining and spending time with friends or enjoying University of Houston football; playing cards or in Port O'Connor with family friends, Pete always knew how to have a good time. He and Annette loved to go dancing and could be seen spontaneously dancing in their kitchen when the mood was inspired.
After Pete retired, he spent time with good friends and family at his weekend home outside of Bellville, Texas, in Burleigh. He and Annette loved going to auctions and searching for just the right antique for their store, Barn and Bell.
His grandchildren were his greatest joy; he especially enjoyed trying to teach them how to play poker. Many a tear may have been shed over a "poorly" dealt hand or a loss but he always took it well when he won.
Another delight Pete had was decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. But it didn't stop there; his "pet" concrete pig was always jauntily decorated for every season imaginable, with sunglasses and a lei for summer or bunny ears and eggs for Easter.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia Kessel Franklin and Tommy Peters; his wife, Annette Trigg Peters and his great-granddaughter, Hallie Austin Smith. Pete is survived by his brother, Allen Franklin, daughters Cathy Peters and Lynda Ventura, Suzanne and Richard Krolczyk, Christy Cabeen, Tracy and Scott Ashmore, as well as grandchildren Reagan and Grant Smith, Tyler Krolczyk and his fiance, Rachel Zetnick, Whitney Cabeen, Sydney, Scott, and Kate Ashmore, and great-grandchildren Paige and Hannah Smith.
The family is so appreciative of the staff at Carriage Inn for always entertaining Pete's ideas and for the nurses and caregivers with Home Health Resources and Blue Star Hospice who took such great care of him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Katy Funeral Home, Kingsland Blvd, Katy, Texas on August 1, 2023, at 11:00 am. In honor of Pete's patriotism, feel free to wear red, white, and blue.
