Dick attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1961 and his Master of Business Administration in 1963. Dick was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. Most importantly, he met the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Nancy, during his undergraduate years at MIT. After graduation, Dick had a successful career with BP (formerly Amoco) for 36 years. Following his retirement, Dick and Nancy built their wonderful “cabin in the woods” in LaGrange, TX where they enjoyed many years of stargazing and time with family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Nancy, his daughters Julie and Sara and son, Eric and by his sons-in-law, Russell and Gary, daughter-in-law, Laura, as well as seven wonderful grandchildren – David, Libby, Lindsey, Matthew, Nico, Claire and Finch. Dick is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sarah and Greg and his nieces Jennifer, Heather and Betsy. Dick was preceded in death by his brother David and his sisters-in-law, Joanne and Barbara.
Dick was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was always helpful to everyone. He was active in church activities as well as Habitat for Humanity. Dick was a master naturalist and taught many young people about nature around us. Astronomy was a major part of his life throughout the years and he was a member of the Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society. The dark skies in LaGrange, TX brought him a great deal of joy in his retirement. Dick was also a very talented painter and although he started painting when he was younger, he had a renewed interest in his later years. Many friends and family are greatly enjoying his work. We will all miss him tremendously.
