

Mary Jane was born in Woodbridge, New Jersey and was the youngest of five children to Henry Charles Nannen and Elsie Doerr. She attended San Jacinto High School in the Class of 1940 and was a drum major for the Golden Gauchos.
On April 3, 1943 Mary Jane and Gus Lewis were married in Houston, Texas. Gus Lewis was one of the sons of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home.
She was a devoted member of St. Martins Episcopal Church, and longtime member of the Lakeside Country Club. She was strong-willed, creative, and artistic, determined, and the matriarch of her family. She was an avid golfer (single handicap), longtime Astros fan, and Oilers fan.
Throughout her life, she lived in Houston until 1978, and then resided in Lake Conroe until her passing.
Mary Jane is preceded in death by her spouse, Gus D. Lewis; sons, Gus D. Lewis Jr. and Chuck Lewis; as well as her four siblings, and special friends Fred and Minnie Cassel.
She is survived by her daughter, Susie Lewis Byrd; grandsons, Keith Lewis Byrd (Deandra), Shane Byrd (Regina), David Lewis (Joanne), Chance Byrd (Jo); granddaughter, Aubrey Lewis; 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
