Mary Ashley was born May 4th, 1948 in Eunice, Louisiana to the late Manuel and Albertine Ashley. Mary attended Grand Avenue high school in Dequincy, Louisiana. After high school, she attended McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education. She also attended St Thomas University in Houston, Texas where she received a supervisor and management certification.
As an educator, she taught at several elementary and high schools in Louisiana and Texas. She spent the last eight years of her career working as a supervisor with the alternative certification program before retiring with HISD in 2013. After retirement, she continued as an educator with Clark County school district in Las Vegas Nevada, as well as in Houston with the Archdiocese of Galveston as a principle and dean.
Mary attended Warren chapel at St Dominic Village (retirement community) in Houston, Texas where she served as a lector and member of the choir.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Albertine Ashley; her brothers, Manuel Jr., John Paul, Carl, Raymond, Roland; her sister, Justina; and her dog Peanut.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Freddie Ashley, as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
