Martina (“Tina”) Marie Aulds Carder of Houston, Texas, was born in Farmerville, Louisiana, on May 4, 1932, to loving parents Gussie and Earl Aulds. She left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on August 24, 2023, at the age of 91.
Tina graduated from high school in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, and attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute(now known as Louisiana Tech University) in Ruston, Louisiana. While at Louisiana Tech, she joined Kappa Delta Sorority and was a member of the Blue Jackets Drill Team. She competed with other freshmen women and won the coveted title of “Official Headstander” of Harper Hall. At Tech she also met and married Dwain L. Carder who, following graduation, worked in the oil and gas industry. His career required them to move numerous times throughout the state of Louisiana, and then in 1969 they moved from Lafayette, Louisiana, to Houston, Texas. Tina then worked for United Technologies (Carrier Corp.) for 17 years retiring in 1987. Months later, her retirement was cut short when she re-entered the workforce employed by Neva Corp. for 12 years until 1999 when she finally retired.
Tina embraced her Methodist faith and lived life with a joyful and generous heart. She was a true Southern lady in mannerisms and etiquette, always exhibiting thoughtfulness and kindness to others. Tina enjoyed sewing (her passion), reading, knitting, cooking, playing bridge (especially with the Bridge Babes group), and her many years of volunteer work. She and her only child, Trish, shared a remarkably close, tender and devoted bond. Tina often remarked that her most memorable and treasured times were those spent with daughter Trish and son-in-law Mark in Niceville, Florida. Tina was treasured by family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Gussie Lee Holleman and James Earl Aulds; aunt and uncle (who helped raise her from the age of 12), Martina Holleman and Frank Sewell McGee of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; sisters, Geraldine A. Smith of Farmerville, Louisiana, and Lela A. Elliott of Pharr, Texas. Tina is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann Carder (Trish) and Mark David Bing of Spring, Texas; sister-in-law JoAnn (Jodie) Carder of Douglass, Texas; sister-in-law Beverly A. Carder of San Marcos, Texas; nieces Jeannie E. Sosa (David) of McAllen, Texas, and DeeAnn Elliott (Floyd Freenan) of Mission, Texas; and nephew Michael W. Smith of LaPlace, Louisiana.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers for their devoted, compassionate care of Tina during her illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Faithbridge Church Chapel, 18000 Stuebner Airline Road, Spring, Texas 77379.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome and appreciate donations made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) or M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
