Margie Elizabeth Kalinec

We regretfully announce the passing of Margie Truitt Kalinec of Kingsville, Texas on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the age of 82. Margie was in The Woodlands, Texas surrounded by her son and daughters and passed away peacefully after courageously battling leukemia (AML). She was born on August 30, 1940 in Mission, Texas where she grew up with her grandparents and aunts and uncles. She was involved in numerous clubs and groups – Kleberg/Kenedy Extension Education Association (KEEA), St. Gertrude’s Altar & Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus #3389 wives, Kingsville Police Department wives, and her El Tapatio Breakfast group.

Margie is survived by her daughters Elizabeth “Missy” Kalinec and Deborah Kalinec (Zimmerman) both of The Woodlands, Texas, her son Eddie and her amazing daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Liz) Kalinec of Premont, Texas, and her grandchildren Ryan and Emily. She is preceded in death by the love of her life Charlie Kalinec, her daughter Patricia (Patty) Kalinec and her son-in-law Rick Zimmerman. Margie met her husband Charlie of 55 years in Alice, Texas, and they married on September 17, 1960. They moved to Kingsville in 1967 and raised their four children there. She and Charlie were active members of St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church. She was a Circle K manager for 12 years. She was an amazing talented cook and seamstress. In the fall of 2019, Margie moved to The Woodlands to take care of her daughter Patty who later passed away on April 16, 2020.

She also survived by her in-laws Johanna Kalinec, Ben and Olene Kalinec, Fran Olson, Jane Kalinec, Dorothy Bertagna, and Linda Kalinec. Margie had numerous godchildren and honorary children. She was Aunt Margie to many nieces and nephews. Each one tells me they were her favorite and they were. She was loved by so many. Some special friends include Lee Durbin, Norma Boone, Mae Elsik, and Bea Dick. She also had close lifelong friendships with friends from the Rio Grande Valley with whom she grew up.

A rosary and funeral mass for both Margie and Patricia will be at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, 1120 S 8th St, Kingsville on Saturday, March 4, 2023. The rosary will be at 9:00 AM, and the mass will follow at 10:00 AM. Margie’s ashes will be later interred at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi. Patricia’s ashes will later be interred at Alice Fraternal Cemetery.
