Lloyd Peter Castanedo passed away peacefully on September 24, 2017. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 16, 1923 to Annie Bland and Raoul Louis Castanedo. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and a daughter, Donna. Lloyd began his professional career as a mail boy at Gulf Oil in New Orleans. There he met his soon-to-be wife Genevieve Marie Murphy who also preceded him in death. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard where he served for three years. Following his honorable discharge, he began his accounting career with the New Orleans Public Service and Borden, Inc. in New Orleans. In 1963, he moved his family to Bellaire, Texas where he continued to work for Borden until his retirement in 1988.
Lloyd was truly a gentle man and a gentleman with compassion for others and was loved by many. He was always ready to quietly help out. He loved his family, especially his grandson, Michael. He and Michael spent quality time together and had a very special bond. Lloyd had a dry sense of humor and always kept everyone on their toes. He had exceptional taste in clothing and was always “dressed to the nine.” He loved to dance, was a master gardener and avid reader. Lloyd was kind, thoughtful and loving, and a man of great faith. He and his wife, Emily, were married for 37 years, and enjoyed travelling and were avid Houston Astros fans.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Emily Reinhart Castanedo, a daughter, Jane Castanedo Hackemack and her husband Norwood, of Houston, TX; grandson, Michael Wayne Hackemack and his wife Johanna, great grandson, Peter Wayne Hackemack, of Albany, NY; sister-in-law, Nancy Murphy of Metairie, LA; brother-in-law, LeRoy Reinhart, Jr. of Sugarland, TX; sister-in-law, Judy Reinhart Russell of Ft. Smith AR; and his precious four-legged buddy Wesley, along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Dr., Houston, TX 77024. A reception will follow immediately after the mass in the church community center. A private burial will take place at Forest Park, Lawndale cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Wesley Academy, 10570 Westpark Dr., Houston, TX 77042, a school that was very near and dear to Lloyd’s heart, or a charity of choice.
