Liane Herbst Mikulenka, of Missouri City, TX, passed away on September 13, 2016. She was born on October 2, 1940 to Arthur and Martha Herbst in Aussig (Sudetenland) Czechoslovakia during WWII. She married Marion (Mike) Mikulenka on March 23, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, TX. At the age of four years, with her father still serving in the German navy, the conquering Russian forces gathered up all the German citizens in Sudetenland, placed them in rail cars and sent them to Germany. Liane, her mother and her teenaged brother arrived and settled in Babenhausen, West Germany. It was five years after the end of the war before her father was able to locate and reunite with the family. Liane is survived by her husband, daughter Gina Denise and husband Ray Stormer. Many nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, both in the USA and Germany. Liane was preceded in death by her son Clifton, who died at the age of eight months from SIDS; her parents, Arthur and Martha Herbst; brother Walter and wife Geatrut Herbst, in Germany. Her great interests in life were her family, bowling, playing bridge, vacationing in the Caribbean, and her employment of 32 years with Target. After suffering several strokes, Liane was forced to retire and was attended by her sole caregiver, her husband, for the past eight years. Honoring Liane’s wishes to be cremated, a Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church at 1510 Fifth Street, Missouri City, TX followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. Private burial services will be held by the family at a later date at the family’s grave site at the Hallettsville, TX Catholic Cemetery. Mass Celebrant: Fr. Sunny Joseph, O.S.H. Pastor. The family requests flowers not be sent, however if someone wishes to make a monetary contribution, a donation in Liane’s name to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund would be appreciated.
