He was born to the late Alfred Anton Quast and Virginia Green Grossman on July 20, 1948 in Houston, Texas. Larry graduated from Jones High School, Houston, Texas in 1967 where he was a star football player. Later he graduated from the University of Houston where he received his BA degree in Business Administration in 1975. He retired from Fluor Corporation, Sugar Land, Texas after 42 years where he had more than 40 years offshore and onshore material management, procurement, contracts, sales, and marketing experience. Larry’s last assignment with Fluor was for the Santos GLNG Upstream Project in Queensland, Australia. He led the development of the Material Management Improvement Initiative and implemented the program for the material management process in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Offices. Additional experience includes positions on several Project Managing Contractor (PMC) Teams as the Project Procurement Program Manager, several Project Management Teams (PMT) as the Material Manager having material management / procurement responsibility for onshore facilities, offshore platforms, and for pipeline projects located in the Gulf of Mexico, Aegean Sea, Arabia Gulf, Indian Ocean, China, Europe, USA, South Africa, and Philippines. Responsibilities also included supervision of the offshore purchasing department as Director of Purchasing. Larry was an avid sports fan of the Houston Astros and he was a “Love ya Blue” guy. He spent his leisure days playing golf with Martha, family and friends. And also enjoyed fishing. Larry’s family and friends will always remember him as a great supportive husband and dad, enjoyed life, kind and generous person. As one colleague mentioned – his kindness had a very positive impact on so many; such a wonderful man.
He is preceded in death by his twins, Caren and Catherine Quast, brother Randy Quast, father Alfred Quast, step-father Robert Grossman.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Martha, his dog Cooper, his mother Virginia Grossman, one son Charles (Casey) Quast, two daughters Cydni and Emily Quast, two step sons Brian (Amy) Steffek, Shane Steffek, and step daughter Jennifer (Doug) Moore. His precious grandchildren Jacob, Erin, and Brooks Steffek, Jaxon Golshan, Corinne and Cassie Jane Moore. One brother Steve (Tricia) Grossman. Numerous brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His wonderful spirit and joy will be celebrated on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. Mark Lutheran Church at 1515 Hillendahl Blvd., Houston, Texas 77055.
