Ken passed away in Houston on May 13 after a mercifully short bout of pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence McKinley “Max” Cordova and Florence Rasberry DePriest. He is survived by his wife Janet Warren Cordova (formerly Janet Warren Price), grandchildren Avery, Barrett and Quinn Price of Lake Forest, CA, siblings Judy Tyer, Larry Cordova and Louise Brochtup of Lufkin and Randy Scott Cordova of Houston, and many nieces & nephews, all of whom looked up to him as the smart, witty, kind gentleman that he was.
He was born in Nacogdoches, TX, attended St. Ann’s Catholic School, graduated from Lufkin High School and from Stephen F. Austin University. He served in the U.S.Army, worked for Price Waterhouse and became a CPA. He then worked at First City National Bank, eventually reaching the position of Sr. V.P. & Cashier. He later served as COO of Seguin Savings and President of ReMax of Texas before becoming a commercial real estate broker. After his retirement he lived in Lake Forest, CA for 15 yrs. but he lived in Houston for most of his adult life.
Ken and Jan enjoyed traveling and did so as often as time and health allowed. They visited more than 30 countries on 6 continents and more than 20 states in the U.S. They often travelled with members of Jan’s family, who quickly became Ken’s family, too. The travelling slowed down after Ken was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and then Lewy Body Dementia, and stopped altogether in 2021 after the effects of the disease made it too difficult. Still, he retained many happy memories of his travels and times spent with Jan and her family, as well as with his own family, until the end.
We’d like to express our profound gratitude to Mercy’s Personal Care Service for the care “Mr. Ken” received from them for the last 5 years of his life. Special thanks to Mary Otoba and Sarah Adesanya who helped him, cared for him, and loved him. They improved his – and Jan’s – quality of life immensely.
Celebrations of Life will be held at restaurants on June 18th in Houston and on June 20th in Lufkin. Both events will include food and drinks, joy and laughter, the sharing of memories of Ken, and appreciation for all the time we had him in our lives. If you are interested in attending either or both celebrations, please email [email protected] for further details.
No flowers or gifts, please. Donations in Ken’s honor can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at [email protected]
